Expanding Alzheimer’s Awareness Beyond Boundaries: The Audio-Visual Edition

In 2025, we released the bilingual audiovisual edition of Mama! I Don’t Want to Leave!, a picture book inspired by the real-life experience of author Valerie Yen’s grandmother with Alzheimer’s disease. While the printed edition and in-person sharing sessions had been warmly received, their reach was inevitably limited by factors such as the author’s academic schedule, event venue availability, and the logistical demands of live storytelling.

The audiovisual edition was created to overcome these constraints, making the story accessible to families, caregivers, and communities regardless of time or location. This edition features synchronized narration, dual-language subtitles in Mandarin Chinese and English, and high-quality visuals of the book’s original illustrations. By integrating language accessibility with visual and auditory storytelling, it offers an engaging, inclusive resource that can be shared globally.

The goal is to provide a tool that not only preserves the emotional resonance of the original book but also serves as a practical, on-demand resource for dementia awareness and caregiver support. Through this format, we hope to spark conversations, encourage empathy, and strengthen the network of understanding and care for those living with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones
